that cannot be the primary reason they're not acting at this point. So, i don't know whether it's Woodward not wanting to look like an idiot because he's the one who gave him a new contract (even though he looks like even more of an idiot for doing nothing) or simply the lack of a viable alternative as of right now

perhaps. but we do know they're talking to the Saudis. and a sale would explain the Mourinho situation, like the chancer says

and i'm not saying he isn't a chancer (i've always been on the fence about him being ITK at all) but he is followed by dozens of journos and a quick search does show that he called some big things early on (Moyes sacking, Mourinho hiring, Utd agreeing to pay Raiola fee for Pogba). he's worked on US promotions for Utd too so it's not like he doesn't know certain (probably low-level but maybe well-placed) people at the club

Zidane or Conte are my top two picks.

Woodward has to be fighting for his job right now and absolutely should go or be ring fenced from any footballing decisions. If the club needs an Anglo face and strategic partnership guy, fine. But he has turned everything he’s touched to shit.

Mourinhos time is obviously up and I think he’s probably trying to get sacked to get a higher pay out.

Zidane doesn't seem like a very good choice

He solves the Pogba problem, potentially brings Varane and absolutely is underrated as a tactician. Not to mention he commands respect and can manage egos. People forget how volatile Madrid were, even during Ancelotti. His work there is unimpeachable

the "pogba problem" is that he has a bunch of teammates who arent very good and a manager who hates him

i don't see how his fee should have any impact on his performance today.

The Pogba problem is he has no respect for the manager and is trying to get Mourinho sacked. And he’s been giving about 60% of the effort for Utd as he gave for France. I think Zidane solves that

well, i would say it both creates an insane amount of pressure that no matter what he basically can't live up to and it makes him an easy target for criticism when united plays poorly but he doesn't necessarily deserve it

he's a midfielder who because of his fee is expected to score 20 goals a season and when he doesn't the english media treats him like he is a layabout

a million times no to Conte. Another defensive manager with an attitude problem

The ideal pick would be someone like Nagelsmann, but obviously he's not an option

That's absolutely true and I've been quite vocal about how I think Souness's comments about him (to take the most egregious example) have often verged on outright racism. He's basically the antithesis of the British conception of a "proper footballer". Flashy, foreign, languid in style - or as they see it, young, black, and arrogant. Everything about him is tailor-made to enrage the knuckle-dragging get-stuck-in crowd.

There's a lot to zorb's point too though. Precisely because of Pogba's innate ability and fee, he's expected to be an invincible defensive midfielder and elite attacker rolled into one. The fucked up thing is our own manager has now managed to convince a significant proportion of our fanbase that he is the primary problem with the team (to the point of some of them booing him) when in fact he's been one of our better performers this year and has been one of the few trying to make things happen in a completely dysfunctional team. Of course, he did the same thing with Martial at the beginning of the season before he started being the only person who could score goals for us and then our scumbag in chief started taking credit for "developing" him

It's really fucking depressing

Couldn't agree more with nn there. Also fuck Souness x2. The bigot couldn't help but criticise Pogba again on Sunday and he didn't even touch the pitch.

suitably curt statement

Manchester United announces that manager Jose Mourinho has left the club with immediate effect.

The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future.

A new caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager.
