Lanthimos Isley Brothers in Arms meets Peter Greenaway. That is my review of this. Book it.

Going tomorrow night. I finally saw Dogtooth recently, it's probably the film of his I've liked the most. Indifferent on The Lobster/Sacred Deer, I guess I don't really love this guy's movies but I'm keeping an open mind for this one.

i can't believe you would say something like this about a film that so prominently featured colin farrell's resplendent gut

this was amazing, one of my faves of the year

on one hand it's an absurd comedy of manners about the grotesqueness of the ruling class, on the other it's a (you should absolutely NOT spoil this) devastating love storyToggle Spoiler

it's lanthimos' most approachable mainstream film while still retaining the aesthetic idiosyncrasies he's honed over his past two features in particular. the reason it's so good is that it's the first time he's has followed Actual People and not caricatures/metaphors/ciphers. colman, weisz, & stone all do tremendous work

It's the first one he hasn't co-written, which is probably significant

felt this way about Lobster and Deer, but I appreciate what he's doing enough that I still like him despite, and these are at least the KIND of movies i want more of

I don't know. Feels pretty earnest.

I was laughing and I was also moved by it. I liked it.

sure

I'll take an interesting failure over a boring mediocre film any day, but I found the lobster and a sacred deer to be fairly flawed, ultimately unsatisfying films

I still recommend them to people, with a caveat
