i think i read somewhere that cuaron's only option was to use CGI in order to make that car so dang big

This is not a complaint of mine, but it's fair to say that the cinematography had a very "digital" look. Obviously, since it was shot in a 65mm digital format.

Yeah that was one of his main intentions to make it very clear that it was digital black and white.

yeah he said he wanted to look at the past through the perspective of the present which is why he used digital. he didn't want any grain.

i think this movie is basically a masterpiece of beautifully observed quotidian details that is almost undone by a few highly Structured moments towards the end where Cuaron piles on the dramatic coincidences and puts *just* too fine a point on Cleo's emotional arc. the rest is so good im practically willing to write these off as nitpicks i just wish he had stayed the course and hadn't fallen prey to the same traps of overwriting that Gravity is (far more) guilty of

Apparently some of the shots in this (specifically the one of Cleo turning off the lights) were actually stitched together from multiple camera set ups, because they couldn't place the camera where it needed to be to do it in one continuous pan. I didn't notice and only learned about it later.

My main take away from this was that digital 65mm cameras are a thing and can look really good. Really hope a lot more movies are shot on them.

Movie plays pretty loose with time. Several days/weeks pass without comment, so I don't think the dog pooped an unusual amount.

The film left me kinda cold, though the climatic beach scene was great, and I was a fan of the dog heads.

The level of detail in the movie theater scene was unreal.

Yeah there were a lot of really incredible shots but I think that one is maybe the best thing I've seen digital produce in terms of sheer clarity.
