I tried to put it together over in his room but it proved far too difficult and I decided to just take it home for the weekend. I spent over 7 hours working on it between Friday and this morning and I was still did not come close to getting every piece together. It is indeed a very tough puzzle, between having no reference picture, a wide range of skin tones that overlap between the two models, and individual pieces being too zoomed in to give any idea of what part of the body it may be. Also around half of the pieces are completely black on both sides, which seems like a nightmare to assemble, and so I've decided to not even try on those.
I did however manage to complete the "main feature" of the two individuals on the box, so without further delay here are the goods:
