"Guys...do we wanna be the chili peppers? Jane's addiction? collective soul? metallica?" "Dude...what if we're all of them?"

i always think of this band. it seems perfect for this thread. the sunglasses, the sound (which is like janes addiction plenty). it's a really dated aesthetic but not without it's charmsVIDEO

my favorite bargain bin alt rock album is Scheer - Infliction they had this minor hit, a crunchy alt-rock tune with a very 90s video and a catchy if too-primed-for-hot-topic chorus:VIDEO but i really love some of the more expansive tracks on it, like In Your Hand, and the singer's voice is killer: VIDEO

Sure but it was the 90s. they're also ridiculously influential nowadays and still touring and have a big following.

i'm not saying they're forgettable, obviously you guys are disproving that. but some of those guitar tones, you can't say it's not a little dated.

The guitar tones are what make it not dated imo. Space rock fx mang. Not many bands were doing the super fxd out guitar thing back then. It was all super boring chug distortion shit. Not that they didn't do a little of that too but their sound always seemed pretty unique to me. I mean I can't name another band from then that wrote something that sounds like "another space song".

Even something like this has a weird angular bent and dissonance to the riff, even if superficially it has a lot of similarities to standard 90s alt rock. Oh yeah and it does have the crazy pitch shifted fx-y part too. I should listen to Magnified more. Cave In really ripped this band off lol.VIDEO

Nice, was listening to Box Set a bit earlier this year. A friend who was a bit older than me gave me a copy when I was 18, describing it as a new band from some old friends of his, neglecting to tell me what their old band was. VIDEO VIDEO

ex-members of scream. (that band's not too good either, honestly. pretty generic for that time period) other than it has DAVE GROHL on drums.

Yep pretty much. Even in my peak Dischord years I kinda shrugged at them.
