i think if roger is going to win a slam this year it's going to be wimbledon. djokovic looks to be in the driver's seat on hard courts, now, definitively. i hope i'm wrong but i don't even see him picking up a title until gerry weber. of course someone can always get injured.

FYI: Federer-Nadal at Madrid starts in about 45 minutes on the Tennis Channel and ESPN3.

Need to get home before that. Or maybe just when the first set is finished, and if it's 6-2 Nadal I may not bother.

Federer takes the first set. How ... untypical?

Well, didn't see that one coming, especially given the start of the set. BTW the elevated behind the court camera shot is pretty sweet - really gives a good impression of the firepower on Fed's forehand. Hoping for more of that (forehand and camera)

That angle reminds me a bit of the mini tournaments where you get a live stream with just one or two cameras. But yeah, some nice shots of attacking play. Nadal runs around too many balls. His return isn't the best in the world, I see Federer volleying more.

was fucking ecstatic to see sharapova whoop wozniacki 7-5 6-3 today and break the curse the pusher has had over her. hope she takes down slammin sam tomorrow, although they've never met on stosur's best surface before.

thought nadal looked real weak for a long time today but then he actually started playing. difficult to read his form, but can't say I like his dopey face in the press interviews playing underdog

He'll probably lose, sure, but it should be a fantastic match; he'll have to keep points short to avoid the long grinding rallies he had in the last final, which means he'll be pulling the trigger fairly quickly. Should make for for good great shotmaking, and we'll get to see more of Nadal's defensive grit. I'm guessing a three-set win for Nadal.

Djokovic just doesn't look particularly bothered by Nadal's topspin and is really punishing every short ball.

It's funny because even though this is what one would expect, so far he's been playing very patiently and has gotten the better of Nadal on most of the longer rallies.

If Nadal could crank it up a notch.. plays great when he has to, at least for a while, but generally his balls need more depth.

But it's also kind of refreshing to see a guy who's been in the public spotlight for so long and had so many issues, be it his fitness, his coach, his racket, or his mental strength, be able to comprehensively put everything together. Plus it's not like his game is particularly hard to enjoy.

no it's also great. not losing sets in these clay finals against nadal and having the guts to continue the streak into the french is pretty huge. I'm glad he got his head together because he was a frustrating guy to follow at times. actually like his game better than nadal's, who comes dangerously close to pure pushing when he's not under pressure and too comfortable

Wow, another straight sets win. I can't get over how good Djokovic is playing - just absolutely ridiculous. If we get a Nadal-Djokovic final at RG, it should have all the makings of a classic (I still give Nadal the edge; not sure why. Maybe the revenge factor will spur him. Plus, Nadal in a best of 5 is a different beast altogether). It's gonna be a fantastic summer swing through to the US Open.

Got to wait on the US Davis Cup team last night, I was really exited to meet Jim Courier, who was super nice, great tipper. Jay Berger was there (anyone remember that guy? used to love that dude) Roddick, his hot wife, The Bryan brothers and a visibly dejected Mardy Fish, also with hot wives in tow. Got to hear Courier tell some awesome stories about being on the ATP tour in the 90s. Nerded out and asked them to sign my Wilson Profile that I just happened to still have in my car, they did. Pretty cool.

Fox News headline about Robert Kendrick's suspension: Doping tennis player Kendrick to appeal drug ban

Dude took a sleeping pill, and as a result will have his French Open results disqualified (and lose his prize money- no small loss for him, I'm sure), and suffer basically a career-ending suspension. Is calling him a doper really necessary?

Yeah that's a little dramatic. Not to mention the fact that Kendrick is getting punished even more than Odesnik will be. In any event, the drug testing policies on both tours are obviously a complete joke.
