Haven't seen it in forever but I remember thinking it was just ok. Which means it is by far the best film adaptation of a Vonnegut book.

I bought the Criterion Godzilla set over the weekend; haven't watched anything from it yet but wow is that thing massive and beautiful. The disc holder page is atrocious, however - mine came with a poorly glued one so some of the discs slip and fall behind each other. Might have to find some other way of actually storing them so they don't scratch each other up

It's really bad. How is a major retailer in 2019 still rolling with a site so user-unfriendly?

Yeah, it took a real concerted effort to locate the Sternberg silent box set.

Probably just typing in the name of the film + b&n into a search engine would work like how you get around hipinion’s janky search function

man so i keep eyeballing that Bergman set

so far i've seen: Persona, Seventh Seal, Virgin Spring, and Wild Strawberries.

I'd say I love the first 3 in that list, but WS was a bit more like, I think it's really good but it's not the kinda movie I feel the need to OWN or like, really revisit much. those spots TEND to go to the like, weirder stuff. WS might techincally get weirder than Virgin Spring but that still had cool weird shit like the tree scene.

Basically I guess my question is like, what is his ratio of like, more WEIRD movies? fwiw I could watch Von Sydow struggle with his faith in black and white forever so if there's more of that I'm probably sold lol.

I'd recommend these three which are all equally amazing.

Winter Light (1963)
Shame (1968)

From the Life of the Marionettes is a 10/10 Bergman for me that I hadn't seen until this box set.

it's worth the money.

Thinking about getting that seven film Kubrick blu ray set mainly for Barry Lyndon (which afaik, only was released on blu ray in this set and then the criterion and they’re basically the same price so I might as well get 2001 and The Shining as they’re also in the set). Does anyone have a compelling reason why I shouldn’t do that and should instead go for the criterion blu ray?

i've thought about that one but i'm too deep on the individual releases, esp since i already have the criterions of Barry Lyndon and Dr Strangelove

Kinda. I think that one has 9 movies in it? I’m looking at the slightly smaller but much cheaper version with only 7. But thank you, your response answers my question.

They've released The Shining and 2001 in UHD BD - those are compelling reasons not to buy the blu ray set imo
