HPN Movie series thread Mk. 2.0

Greetings, all. If you've ever dreamed of experiencing classic cinema with fellow boarders, then this is your chance. Anyone can join us on Sundays and Wednesdays at 2200 EDT/EST for viewings of films that we suggest, select, and then watch together. If you wanna come hang with all of us or are just curious, you can visit the official group chatroom [Channel: #HPNMOVIESERIES] on those specified evenings.

We use D***b*x for ease of file access / syncing purposes. It makes life much easier and it’s highly recommended. Check the board box's folder to dl or PM me for a separate link from our alt folder.

List of films screened so far. (updated 8-15-19)
Check out what we've watched so far on Letterboxd. (out of date)

So for our first October screening, we’ll be celebrating A Night of Ostentatious Alien Invaders. But in order to do so, we’ll need to make a few decisions first:

1) What to watch?
For each screening I’ll be throwing down 2-3 films that adhere to the general theme and then we’ll cast our votes here in the thread for which we’d rather watch. There is a wealth of horror movies to choose from, so none of these decisions will be easy. Yet choose we must. First up:

TerrorVision (1986)

vs.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988)

2.) When to watch it?

We’ll be following the usual Sunday/Wednesday schedule for the majority of the month, but this first screening presents a unique problem: The first Presidential Debate runs until 2230EDT this Wednesday, cutting a half hour into our normal start time. As I figure most people will be watching the debate (myself included), we need to figure out an alternate time for the screening. I see two options: we can either start a little later than normal on Wednesday (say 2245 or 2300) if we feel we won’t be sleep deprived or we can postpone the screening until Thursday Oct. 4 at the usual 2200 EDT. So, what say we all?

Great video, Ampersand. I really have to stop spending my nights at the bar down the street (for financial and physical reasons) so this will serve as a good distraction. I vote for Terrorvision on Wednesday so we can make fresh middle-class jokes.

Also, Halloween 3 is an absolute must at some point.

Really incredible vid Ampersand, I know you're going to do great. Both movies look good but Terrorvision intrigues me more, and I can likely make both nights but I'll vote for Thursday.

Yeah that factored into it as well.
Incidentally I'm pushing for Halloween 3 eventually because I'm looking for an excuse to spend money on the Scream Factory BR.

terrorvision
Slartisfgh is never mentioned in The Bible, but it is here, during one of the early battles, that Matthew spontaneously became liquid.

TerrorVision sounds like a lock to me, but I'm still undecided as to date/time. Seems like either date would work for most people, but just to be sure: Would later on Wednesday night or normal time on Thursday night absolutely not work out for anyone who wants to attend?

ok so if we do thursday i'll lead a rebellion on wednesday to watch aerobicide too, unless you think that's definitely going to fit in later in the month
or that other trailer that looked so incredible from last night.......with all the scenes in the mausoleum or something

mvt One Dark Night (the mausoleum movie) is probably not very good.
If you want a good one in a mausoleum just watch Phantasm.

edit: or perhaps i'm mistaken. either way i feel like i probably should see aerobicide before i die

Yeah, the point was we'd start maybe 15 minutes after the debate was over. That, or Thursday at the normal time of 2200 EDT.

I didn't put a scene from it in that trailer up top just because. 8-)

Also, anyone who wants to participate but doesn't have Dropbox shared folder access just PM me your e-mail address so I can invite you. It's super easy to use and everyone having the same file will make it so much easier for all of us to sync up.

I definitely can't do Thursday, work goes until 2400 or 0100 EDT.
The big question might be: are there people out there for whom Wednesday night bumped back 30-45 min would make it run too late for them?

Okay, so I've figured out a happy alternative, because this is a weird week and I want everyone to have a chance to watch something:

On Wednesday, post-debate @ 2245 EDT, we'll hold a special screening of AEROBICIDE (1987), by popular request. I reencoded a very small filesize/moderately decent quality copy of it and am uploading it to the Dropbox now.

On Thursday, we'll have our regular screening of TERRORVISION (1986) @ 2200 EDT. This is available in the Dropbox now.

I hope everyone finds this acceptable.

Solid plan, movies both nights is cool this week. Unfortunately I just learned that I might be working both nights; some terrible rich people are holding what I'm assuming is a debate party tomorrow so ther's a good chance I'll be stuck in some awful penthouse wishing desperately I was hanging out with you guys.
