I think void basterds only starts to reach the thrilling scarce resource choices of ftl when you get a bit of a ways in. I've got a lot of upgrades, but exploring a ship even medium populated with screws on hard is a fun game of "is what I came here for worth it and is it worth blowing the horde of bullets I've managed to collect when two inevitably catch me in a doorway."

I only considered it because this ship had a lot of loose wires about, which screws get caught on for long periods, letting me stack the slow poison build-up on them in relative safety. I still died because I got greedy and turned my back on an electrified one to pick up junk and he blasted me mere feet from the airlock.

Stadia launch line-up seems weak. Mostly known games, which is fine, but only 35-ish titles?

Next year the Base subscription launches and it's free, you purchase games like on a console, which is in theory a cool way of separating that from a console or any hardware, but it seems the quality will be limited for this service.

The Pro thing has 4k 60fps, which is impressive to consider, but for 10 bucks a month you still have to buy the individual games (only getting a few free). That's obviously a no-go.

I'll probably try buying a game for the free service but seems like a good streaming subscription is a long ways off for this. Curious what Microsoft will show at E3.

-road to guangdong out today...to negative reviews. big ooof. looks like a lot are saying it's an artsy jalopy without the fun parts. still wanna try it though
-octopath traveler out for pc tomorrow, looking forward to it
-remake for spongebob battle for bikini bottom announced. only briefly played the original but is regarded as a good platformer

i really really love illithid and im so excited for bg3

i hope larian keeps something like the original games' class/subclass system for character development/customization. the 'skill tree' thing from dos2 is sorta fun for minmaxing and combat identity but totally illegible in the context of rp/class fantasy stuff, and i really care way more about bg3 delivering on the class-fantasy front than on the can-i-make-my-character-overpowered front

hope they take some cues from poe2 there

also dos2's tone is like relentlessly greybeard-gygax-dork, like every single thing is Wacky and Crazy and Wild. i don't mind it there but i hope bg3 changes it up, goes more Viconia DeVir than Minsc and Boo. illithid invasion being the backdrop is promising for that, i think

basically im sure im gonna love it but i sorta wish it was, like, larian as a studio but with josh sawyer at the helm instead of swen vincke

With the games being full cost and the system costing a grip, I'm (tone: not snarkily) wondering what the audience is for Stadia.

It'd probably get me if you could like "rent" a game for $5 a week or something

you don't have to buy a controller, you can play stadia in your chrome browser with the xbox controller

but yeah I think the market for the 10 dollar subscription will be small as long as the game library is limited and you don't get any real extra benefits outside of 4k

the sub is appealing to me in the way netflix is, in that 10 bucks and I'm free to quit at any time I assume

so if a new game comes out and look, 90% of new games I burn out on in a month, I'd just pay the $10 and cancel if I don't have anything to keep me signed up until another game comes along

you still have to pay for each individual game (with a few exceptions, so far only destiny is free)

yeah. I respect larian's success and ambition, but I bounce off all their games after a dozen hours, and I don't want to play dungeons and dragons: original sin.

biomutant look succ tbh

stadia would only appeal to me it if it some more previously console-only exclusives. maybe that's a naive pipe dream though

what's meant by 'essential' cause if i can force my way through with, currently, a keypad, then i'm doing that

anyone ever pay $112 for a base game product before

it's asynchronous, incidental multiplayer that is designed to throw you together with anonymous other playerz occasionally so you can help each other out or screw around or whatever. no vlice chat, no forced coop, just kind of its own thing in a vaguely dark souls mold

I've paid $140 for a game with 'premium' content.

the people I really really don't understand are the ones who buy the 30%-ish markup "deluxe" versions that basically get you digital content - like a few cosmetic skins - which costs the company essentially nothing .. and then gripe about buying the deluxe version and feeling let down by EA or whatever
if it was 5 bucks extra sure, but these deluxes usually cost say, $80 instead of $50

if you're getting a goofy action figure or tacky steelbook or whatever.. well I think it's useless junk, but I can at least understand paying a premium for it
