I once spent eight hours in an abandoned rail yard that turned out to be one of the most contaminated places in North America when I finally looked up why it closed. Best night of my life.

I loved Montreal when I went there a few years ago. I'd like to go back at a time when it wasn't fucking freezing.

Someguy anyone can show where the attractive people are because this entire city makes me feel like disgusting slime but you know what most people don't know is how to sneak into the sewer.

osheaga is kind of the worst but hopefully some acts you want to see will play

if you're only here for a weekend, honestly your best bet is to just wander about and eat in the plateau. pop by jeanne mance parc at the foot of mount royal (you can drink in it if you bring something more than a snack to eat), check out the mile end, eat in one of the endless good restaurants, lots of good bars etc.

outkast is playing osheaga... wish i wasn't home for my brother's wedding if only for that reason.

sean's got good advice here, and banquise and dieu du ciel are both within walking distance. choose yr poutine wisely.

in reference to my earlier post, i DID go walk up the mountain last night. it was my first time doing it at night... why aren't there any lights? how often do grown men get accosted up there? it was scary

Frederic Law Olmsted’s plan
Born in 1822 in Connecticut, Frederic Law Olmsted witnessed the beginning of the industrial revolution in the US and saw the negative side of urbanization and industrialization: pollution, overpopulation and unhealthy living conditions, interminable working hours.
His many travels at home and abroad also exposed him to human suffering (famines, slavery) and had a profound influence on his philosophy of life.
Frederic Law Olmsted was convinced of the therapeutic value of nature on people and prioritized making parks accessible to every social class.
In 1874, he accepted a commission to draw the plans for a park on Mount Royal, with the desire to “highlight the poetic charms of natural scenery.”
Olmsted designed a sinuous road that that enables visitors to enjoy vistas of natural beauty and to appreciate the distinct topographical areas of the mountain. He enhanced the mountainous aspect of Mount Royal by accentuating its natural characteristics and focusing on three key elements: forest, meadow and water. A network of paths weaves these elements together.
The park was inaugurated on May 24, 1876 and is recognized as one of his major accomplishments by the National Association for Olmsted Parks in the United States.

get a lapdance and slit your wrists in the middle of it and smear the blood on the stripper's face like warpaint and do a traditional native american chant

My favourite ones I was thinking of have either been turned into condos after they burned down or else have been turned into condos while standing. But I can check this DB that I used to use.

The thing is sneaking is basically superfluous. There are so few places where there even are security guards, but even if they're around it's not really worth their time to chase anyone. That said I've gone into places in Montreal where the database descriptions made it sound like fucking Shadow Moses Island surrounded by dogs and I found wandering in through a side door completely easy.

Most places I've been that I'd say still look solid to hit just require rope and a hedge.

Hey all -

My wife and I are thinking about doing a few days in Montreal at the end of this month. Arcade Fire are playing in some park near the biosphere and we wanted to check it out. I think we'll want to do Friday - Monday.

Do you guys have any recommendations for where to stay? Are there places near the venue that are any good? Are there any kind of up and coming neighborhoods that might be cool to stay in? We've been to Montreal before and have once stayed downtown (the financial type district?) and once in old Montreal. I'm not opposed to either, but would like a change of scenery.

ditto on trying to spend a weekend up there soon. it's sort of criminal that we live so close and never ever go visit.

Jeremy, there's a cool half-church by Lasalle metro that has your name on it.
Like, they demolished the front half and left the altar/back wall.
