Tap is kind of quirky to a fault, though. I'd be down with a couple people at any given time agonizing but ultimately choosing their career/studies over love. I like that
Mino and Uchi are just the 4th coupleToggle Spoiler in show history.

he's a decent western foil to a lot of their dating antics.

God why did I start this so late at night. It's stupidly enjoyable. I checked out Good Morning Call, the other Japanese series Netflix did and its pretty awful.

It seems you can also get the live reactions of the panel watching by changing the audio to "Japanese Audio Description" but there's no subtitles for that.

I can't believe Yuki went after Mizuki during his own birthday party. What a dick. Then the young kid on the panel doubling down on it was amazing.

The panel is so weird. The women contribute so little to the discussion, especially the youngest one, who's job is apparently to read a short intro and then sit there silently looking confused and uncomfortable. The young guy sitting silently next to comic relief guy is also distracting.

junebugs point earlier in the thread about the panel ascribing traditional values to the events that are going on is pretty interesting, its like they're translating everything they're doing to more "acceptable" viewpoints for the public? I mean the show is maddeningly problematic for the most part (mainly the incredibly limiting gender roles being placed on everyone) but sometimes the panel just take it even further and tall about things like how only the women should cook and how they should use it to show they like someone etc.

I wish I could speak Japanese to know if there's some takedowns of this somewhere.

There's another 12 episodes that have aired so far according to the Netflix Japan youtube channel so they must be waiting for the subtitling to happen on those. I remember them saying it was only going to be 18 episodes originally.

You can access Japanese Netflix through Proxmate. Worked for me in the UK but I've had issues in France
They are up to Ep.33 (Eng subs available)
Just select Season 1: Part 2 from the top of the episodes pop-up menu

There's English sub's on the Japanese Netflix? Damn I wasn't bothering with it as I thought it was Japanese only.

OK. Yeah? This craziest element of this show is how it is so transparently geared toward hooking up that people can openly leave (peacefully, unlike American reality shows) whenever they like AND the production team just brings in another person who is seemingly more tailor picked to click with the remaining unmatched members.

yuriko is probably the most boring one to me, but it seems like everyone is obsessed with her on that show
yeah, i'm guessing it's because she's like an anime girlfriend archetype. just too saccharine to be realistic and def the dullest imo.
My thing with Yuriko though is that she obviously is soooo fresh out of a break up that she is mostly in that house for distraction. I don't waaant to think she's super boring, although she has been the whole time, but she is clearly not totally into anyone and instead is just pursuing male attention to avoid missing her ex. That episode that
starts with her crying after her ex for directly turns down the possibility of getting back together (which I think was important) was probably the saddest bit of reality TV i've ever seen.Toggle Spoiler

Arman is a good pot stirrer. The rest of the house seemed to identify a little more with eachother the moment he showed up. The dude's seemed to really appreciate his perspective right away. TBH, I don't feel real vibes between him and Mitzuki tho. Maybe him and the hat maker can hit it off, she also seems relatively basic but similarly single-minded//goal oriented and much more open to love.
BUT REALLY, the craziest thing about this show is how ostensibly it's about people forming romantic relationships and literally EVERYONE is terrified of even sitting too close to eachother on a daaaaang couch.

Sorry I have so many thoughts on this because I binge like 2 eps a night when I'm stoned before bed.
I can't help but think the whole time about all those marriage and sex stats you hear about from Japan, where young people just aren't really exhibiting an sexual instinct or desire and coupling//sex//marriage is at such an all time low. But you see with someone like MInori that the desire is obviously there????

i always wonder how self conscious they are of the fact that they're being filmed and how that is affecting they're behavior

yeah definitely. i think it's reasonable to say that similar US shows that deal with the same self-awareness have people showing much less inhibition, though these guys i think(?) can watch their own episodes as they air which is bizarre.

yeah they are receiving feedback each week and watching the past few days edited into a narrative which is a pretty big monkey wrench to throw into the "reality show" formula.
